UK: Women directorships on the rise

While still lagging behind their male counterparts when it comes to leading Britain's businesses, women are nevertheless pushing ahead in the boardroom, with data from the City showing that the number of female chief executives has doubled over the past 12 months.

Some 12 per cent of Managing Director roles in the City and Canary Wharf are now held by females, with one in five Directors and Vice-Presidents now also women. At the same time, statistics compiled by the recruitment firm Astbury Marsden show that the proportion of top jobs in the financial services sector going to female candidates has carried on rising over recent months, while women also hold around 60 per cent of all top jobs in the HR industry.
