To do so, McKinsey Academy uses an online platform based on the edX software developed by MIT and Harvard. Business schools are watching the rise of this new rival closely, writes the Financial Times, quoting Glenn Hubbard, dean of Columbia Business School in New York: "When people ask me where my competition is, McKinsey Academy is on the list."
McKinsey certainly has the power, money and knowledge to become a veritable competitor for many schools. Many former McKinsey consultants lead huge organisations such as Tidjane Thiam of Credit Suisse, Oliver Bäte at Allianz or Vittorio Colao at Vodafone and is known for cooking up cunning business strategies.
According to the Financial Times, the service is being offered both to existing clients and companies that have not used McKinsey before. For the existing clients it is advertised as a way of ensuring that a strategy gets implemented top down into the lower ranks of the hierarchy. For the latter, it is something of a teaser to get new gigs for the consultants.
Apart from custom-made programmes McKinsey Academy offers the following courses:
McKinsey Management Programme - a set of courses for rising professionals looking to build leadership and management capabilities. "This programme integrates perspectives from McKinsey experts and external business leaders from around the globe", according to the website.
